DEBT STORY: How I Paid Off £37,000 In 2 Years

Tell us about yourself.
I ’m 38 years old, married, and a mother to one child and two fur babies.
How did you get into debt?
Stupidity. Irresponsible lending. At 18 I got my first credit card with a £500 limit. I remember them calling me because there was under a minute between transactions thinking it had been stolen. At the time I thought it was funny. Husband had a very well paid job and was renting . Didn’t ever think to do a budget . So we had his wages and then the credit cards . Paying only ever the minimum. At that time I worked 8 hrs at a hairdressers and my largest credit amount on ONE card was 14k (luckily I didn’t go up to that). All was well until the recession hit and the construction industry was hit hard. We then used cards to live on buy shopping, fuel and loads of cash withdrawals. Followed by bad family advice of ignore them they write them off only escalated the issue.
What motivated you to embark on a debt-free journey?
Scared to answer the door or phone. Then found Dave Ramsey on instagram, ordered the book immediately and haven’t looked back since.
How did you get out of debt?
By using the debt snowball method. Listing all our debts smallest to largest.
