INTRODUCTION
Hey Lovely! My name Tolu Frimpong. I am a Money Coach, author of How I Paid Off £36,000 debt, and a Finance Content Creator. I help millennial mums break the payday to payday cycle and achieve their financial goals through the power of intentional budgeting. I’m also a wife and mother of three young energetic boys who keep me grounded and are my source of daily motivation.
HOW I ENDED UP IN £36,000 DEBT
If someone had told me five years ago that today I would be a Money Coach and Author, sharing content online about personal finance and helping thousands of people around the world get started with budgeting, I would have laughed my head off! Yet here we are today – this is actually my reality.
Why is this laughable? Because just 5 years ago I was in over £36,000 debt without a clue as to how to dig myself out of the hole I’d found myself in.
My husband and I became homeowners for the first time back in 2016, and due to issues with the property we bought, we needed to do a lot of work to the property to make it habitable. Renovation costs weren’t factored into our new home budget so we took out multiple bank loans to cover the hefty renovation costs.
No expenses were spared in order to make our dream home a reality, and it cost us, big time!
As if that wasn’t enough, we also amassed thousands of pounds worth of credit card and overdraft debt, thanks to a couple of family holidays and big purchases for our new home.
MY DEBT FREE JOURNEY
After struggling to keep up with mortgage repayments, loans, credit cards and overdrafts, and coming close to losing our home, we decided enough was enough.
It was time to face that debt head on and take the necessary steps to achieve debt freedom. We were able to pay off all our debts in two years thanks to the power of a realistic zero-based budget.
Again, there is so much I could say about my debt-free journey and what I learned along the way, but that would be too much to include in this bio. I explain in detail the steps I took to achieve debt freedom in my ebook How I Paid off £36,000 debt.
My journey to debt freedom was a challenge to say the least. I learnt a lot about money and how it works. It’s important to control your money, and not let your money control you. What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger, achieving debt freedom and breaking that payday-to-payday cycle has made me stronger and empowered me to build this platform to encourage others to do the same.
Your current situation, is not your final destination, you too can break the payday-to-payday cycle and gain control and confidence with your money.
WHY I STARTED THIS PLATFORM?
This platform was birthed out of my desire to share the knowledge I’d acquired on my debt free journey with other women facing a similar struggle.
Personal finance isn’t a subject we’re taught at school. We’re expected to become adults and automatically know what to do with our money.
Money is such a taboo subject. I live in the United Kingdom and I know from experience that people get very uncomfortable talking about money. Just ask a friend how much they earn and watch how awkward the conversation quickly becomes!
When I was on my debt free journey, I scoured YouTube and the internet to find content creators in the UK talking about personal finance to learn and get encouragement from. I found some in the United States and a handful in the UK – none of which I could relate too.
I figured there must be other people in the same position as me looking for this content, so I decided to plug that gap and create that content for them. I’ve learnt a lot about money over the last few years, and it’s only right that I share what I know to help other women on similar financial journeys.
As a mother of three boys, I’m particularly passionate about helping other mums get better with their money. I believe we owe it to the next generation to learn how to win with money so that we can teach and empower them to be greater than us.
